There are two reasons for pruning tea fields:
1. Maintaining the plucking table

The plucking table is the area on top of the bushes from where all the tea is plucked. The table is pruned every two years to maintain the optimal height for plucking:65 cm.

2. Rejuvenation of the bushes

By trimming to a table, the bush can then focus on growing the tea/buds, thus providing a higher yield. At the same time, all the trimmed material is gathered on the ground, helping to fertilize the soil. Pruning is done by specialpruning teams who have beentrained in using the tools, safety procedures and how to prune the bushes properly. Pruning is done with power pruning tools , greatly increasing the efficiency of the pruners and greatly reducing the time required to do so.
